Everyone knows that China has implemented a family planning policypromoting the small family culture – preferably one child only. Strictly speaking, however, there are many different exceptions from this rule that eventually exempt from it 60% of population.

For example, rural residents can have a second child, especially if the first one is girl or has physical disability or mental illness… Putting females in the same category with disabled is telling, huh?

    It’s not putting women in the same category as the disabled at all. In Chinese culture a son will have to provide for his parents in their old age (vital in a country with no pensions and no social security) whereas a daughter will be expected to provide for her husband’s parents.

    Whether that’s a good thing or not is up for debate, but the Chinese really aren’t the Saudi’s and they have one of the few constitutions in the developing world that affirms women as of equal value to men and prohibits sexual harassment and unequal treatment.
